This post has been a long time coming! Last March, my assistant photographer and I travelled to a lovely venue called Latimer Place in Buckinghamshire to cover the wedding of Ben & Elly. People often ask me how we find new clients and it’s definitely a mix of wedding fayres, blogging, web site and lots of personal recommendations. I think most people would agree feeling way more confident in trusting somebody to provide a very important service to them when somebody trusted has made a personal recommendation (wow that was long winded – but you get my drift!) Ben & Elly definitely came down the personal recommendation funnel! Although they live in Edinburgh, Ben is from Hull and Elly is from Bucks – so how did they meet me I hear you ask! Well, Ben’s mum lives next door to the Mother of one of my grooms who was married in 2012 and she happened to have his wedding album at her house when they were visiting – again, maybe a ‘tedious link’ but very much how a lot of my referrals happen!
Ben and Elly contacted me and told me their wedding would be held in Buckinghamshire and would I be available to travel – the answer was yes, yes, yes! Comms are made easy for us these days with email, Facebook, Skype and text all playing nicely so distance is certainly no problem – in fact, we’ll be heading to Lake Garda, Italy to shoot a wedding in September – just a little bit further than Chesham!
Latimer Place is a venue I havn’t shot at before so we arrived early the day before to check in and orient ourselves to the surroundings. It’s a truly lovely, contemporary building with classic Victorian architecture and I could see so many places to shoot as walked the grounds and around the interiors. The boys all got ready at the venue so not much of a logistics challenge there but making our way to the bride’s parents house and then onto the church was interesting to say the least! Hemel Hempstead town is home to the infamous ‘Magic Roundabout’ – a crazy invention whose designer was surely on mind altering substances when it was dreamt up! Negotiating this behemoth took nothing short of heroic driving skills and pure pot luck! Please do check out the Wikipedia article, it’s fascinating reading! The church ceremony was very intimate, I shoot a lot of weddings in The Church of England, but this Catholic ceremony had a very personal, intimate feel – and quite a few extra bits in the ceremony which made great photo opportunities.
Back to Latimer Place for the perfect wedding breakfast and some truly hilarious speeches – the Best Man (Groom’s Brother) had quite possibly the driest sense of humour I had ever come across! We explored the venue for more photos after dinner and then onto a banging evening reception. We actually left Buckinghamshire that evening and drove back up the motorway to East Yorkshire – you can take the photographer out of East Yorkshire but you can’t take East Yorkshire out of him – I just wanted my own bed!
So, I present Ben and Elly’s wedding album spreads below and I hope you’ll enjoy checking out their fantastic day.
