Rebecca and Andy were at Tickton Grange Hotel on May 1st just past and insight Photography were there to capture every nuance of this special day for a very special couple.

May 1st is also known as ‘May Day’ and is a traditional spring holiday in many cultures.  Dances, singing, and cake are usually part of the celebrations that the day includes – Andy and Becky’s big day had all of those aplenty!

Portraits of Groomsmen

We meet a lot of couples in our line of work as i’m sure you will imagine – all are unique, all have attributes and personalities that make them special and individual – if there are 3 words I would choose to describe Andy and Becky’s ‘joint personality’ they would be (a) giggles (b) curiosity and (c) playfulness.  I loved working with these guys so much – they were a hoot to be around and their childlike nature has been a joy to absorb.

Becky is an accountant, Andy is an illustrator – 2 vocations you would think may produce a skewed ‘alignment’ in a couple – not Becky and Andy – they are both hilarious and even more so together.

Superhero Groomsmen Wedding Day

On the morning of the wedding, preparations with the boys were always going to be hilarious. The Groom told me he had got matching superhero cuff links and T-Shirts for all the groomsmen – something I would definitely do myself being a huge superhero fan.  We had a laugh a minute photographing the boys donning their suits, struggling with their cravats and generally winding each other up.

Once dressed and groomed, we headed outside and created some classic superhero inspired photographs which I know Andy is just going to love!

Bridesmaids

The bride and groom both got ready within a couple of minutes drive of each other in Beverley so once we’d left Andy and the gents it was just a short journey to meet up with our bride, Becky, who was making her final preps with the girls and doing her very best not to overdose on chocolate!

Gorgeous Bride

I had plenty of time to photograph details such as the wedding dress, jewellery, flowers etc whilst the hairdresser finished everybody off,  Becky’s bridesmaids were AMAZINGLY helpful at this stage of the day helping me find everything whilst she was in the chair getting her barnet teased!  The flowers were in Andy’s study and I couldn’t help but notice all of the stuff he uses and refers to in his inspiration as an illustrator – it’s great to see how the minds of really creative people pulse.  I also caught sight of Andy’s first published book called ‘I have an Orange Juicy Drink’ – A wonderful story of a boy who loves his orange juicy drink so much that he has to fight off aliens and dinosaurs and elephants who try to take his orange juicy drink off him – I couldn’t stop laughing as I read it and it was so beautifully illustrated – I knew I was photographing a very talented groom!

Becky looked amazing in her gown once she was finally ready and I spent a few quiet moments with her shooting portraits before we brought Dad in to see her.  I always love this moment and this wedding was no difference – I’m sure it must be one of the proudest moments a Dad could have in his life!

Wedding Ceremony Photojounalism

I left Becky to compose herself and spend some time with her Dad and I headed over to Tickton Grange Hotel to get ready for a civil ceremony.  When we arrived, the Rose Room was packed with over 100 eagerly waiting guests ready to see the bride – Andy was stood with his knees knocking and his Dad was poised and ready with his bag pipes to pipe the bride in – how cool is that!

Andy’s reaction was classic when he saw Becky for the first time and I love the sequence of 3 photos that shows that moment.  The ceremony was lovely – 2 really touching readings and some very personal vows were exchanged by the Bride and Groom in addition to the legal stuff – I must admit, I shed a little tear and I go to A LOT of weddings!

Vintage Camper van at Tickton Grange HotelAfter the ceremony, the guests were served champagne and we processed outside to Tickton Grange’s perfectly manicured gardens to take care of the formal group shots which we had a real good laugh with – especially with Andy’s Italian side of the family – a hoot a minute!

Tickton Grange Rose Room Gardens

Once we’d got the formals out the way, I took the Bride and Groom for a wander around the grounds of the hotel – always a lovely time for them to have that ‘realisation’ of what they’ve just achieved and hence why I call this time ‘The Penny Drop Session’.  Tickton Grange Hotel always gives me super options for photos on both beautiful and not so beautiful days.

Tickton Grange Weddings

The wedding breakfast was served followed by the usual suspects delivering their speeches – Andy was a glass case of emotion as he spoke – so genuine and full of love.

Modern Wedding Portraiture

We had some more time for photos after the reception was completed and returned just as evening guests began to arrive.  The ‘night do’ was ready to go with a fab band all set up and tuned in.  The cake cut was followed by a first dance to ‘Can’t take my eyes off You’ – one of my fave tunes – especially when that brass section kicks in!

Speeches at Tickton Grange Hotel

It’s safe to say that I loved every minute of Becky and Andy’s wedding – they really are a super couple and I look forward to sharing their collection of over 700 images with them when they get back from their globetrotting honeymoon soon.
