Greetings – I havn’t blogged in ages and felt like it was time to pull my finger out of the usual mountain of editing, consultations, design work and life living to put pen to paper! In this article I wanted to share some thoughts on why having a pre-wedding photography session is so important and also why each and every couple I work with has one included in their package whether big or small.
The idea of the pre-wedding shoot is not a new one, photographers have been meeting their couples ahead of the big day for many years to plan and discuss the timeline of the big day in detail. We’ve now taken that meeting one step further and will always take our couples for a wander to shoot some pictures together – usually at a fave location. Why do we do this? This is a question that I get asked frequently – especially from grooms to be – it’s a question that’s easy to answer in a few simple points:-
- It gives me a chance to re-connect with my clients – I may not have them for 18 months!
- Couples do not come ‘pre-programmed’ to enjoy their time in front of a professional’s camera – this needs work/practice.
- Couples need to see me working with my gear and experiencing how easy the photography will be on their wedding day.
- Grooms need showing how to avoid standing on a brides’s dress and how to avoid tugging her veil (either would lead to instant divorce)
- Couples grow in their confidence not just with me but with each other when they’ve spent time in front of the camera.
- It’s an opportunity to get really excited about the big day which is just around the corner!
I really strongly believe in the power of the pre-shoot and will continue to include one in all of my packages until the end of time – it really does matter and i know my couples get a lot out of it – especially groomsmen who couldn’t quite figure it all out – Bless em! The short video I’ve put together above shows some of my couples from 2015 and a selection of images from their pre-shoots – hopefully you’ll be able to connect with how relaxed they all look!
