Yorkshire Wedding Photography at Tickton Grange – We found ourselves back at Tickton Grange again this weekend just past for the wedding of Martin and Sarah.  If you’re an avid reader of our blog, you’ll know we were at this fantastic location last Friday and you can read all about that here

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0001Sarah and Martin are both true Northerners – Sarah hails from Newcastle and Martin is originally from Scotland –  I knew we were in for a treat as I’ve never met a Geordie or a Scotsman that didn’t have a great sense of humour!

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0002Our day started at Martin’s Mum and Dad’s house over in Walkington.  The boys were all to wear  Black Watch Kilts so I allowed plenty of extra time for the dance and intricacy of this traditional Scottish dress and I’m glad we did as it had been some time since the boys had work one!  It was super to see all of the accessories and costume come together and the boys looked so smart.  The house had some great features that allowed us to get  portraits inside and then we headed out onto the streets to do our cool groom shots.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0003The rest of the day was set at Tickton Grange where our bride Sarah was getting ready.  She had chosen a beautiful gown from Deborah Moore Bridal  by Sottero and Midgley  that had the most beautiful colour accent – it was a joy to photograph.  The girls all got ready together in the hotel’s Dearing Suite which has loads of room to work with and the light streaming in through South Facing windows is just divine.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0004Vicki Suddaby was the hair and make up artist and she did a perfect job of getting the girls glammed up.  So, with our bride ready – it was time to go get her married!

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0005The East Riding Registrars performed a lovely ceremony in the Rose Room- there were tears a plenty around the room as the bride and groom shared their promises and came together as man and wife.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0006Sarah Slator of http://www.flowersbysarahslator.co.uk did a wonderful job of decorating the Rose Room with her exquisite floral arrangements.  The tables and fire hearth had been surrounded by small bouquets of flowers, hand tied, and presented in glass mason jars stood on polished wood rounds – very original and gave a lovely fresh feel to the room.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0007Mother Nature wasn’t playing so nicely on this wedding day but, as always, a good wedding photographer has a definite plan ‘B’ for inclement weather.  i put plan B into action as it was raining when the ceremony finished, but just as I had constructed my lights to shoot the formal groups inside, the rain stopped!  We immediately seized the opportunity and hopped outside to rock through the groups – it started to rain again just as we finished – perfect timing!

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0008The bride and groom sat for their wedding breakfast at 4.30 and speeches were presented first.  Again, with a room full of Scots and Geordies, I knew the speeches would be full of humour and emotion.  The Northern Spirit was there in spades as the men wore their hearts on their sleeves as they delivered their speeches.  I always feel very blessed to be witness to these very intimate moments in a family’s history and speeches are always one of my fave parts of the day to photograph.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0009After a sumptuous 3 course meal, we took the bride and groom for a stroll around the grounds.  It was 7pm, the weather had cleared and the grounds of Tickton Grange looked absolutely lovely.  Martin and Sarah wrote to me after the weekend and expressed that they had enjoyed this part of the day so much because ‘they had just got to be themselves’ – I know couples can feel really overwhelmed on their wedding day.  It’s such a massive roller coaster ride of nervous excitement, pure adrenaline and outright raw emotion so that half an hour we spend ‘away from the maddening crowds’ is savoured so much.  It’s my time to play with light, composition and all of my geeky photography tools to create stunning images of the bride and groom – I love my job!

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0010As we arrived back at the Rose Room, Martin and Sarah’s friends were arriving (160 in total!) and the evening reception was underway.  Dave from http://www.wave2dave.co.uk had set up and was already starting to light up the party room – if you havn’t come across Dave before – he is definitely one of my fave DJs in the Hull area – his energy is infectious and his professionalism is superior – he comes highly recommended.

Tickton-Grange-Wedding-Photography_0011I left Martin and Sarah on the dance floor just after 9pm with a big night of partying and fish and chips ahead of them!  They’re on their way to Las Vegas and then Hawaii on their honeymoon and I look forward to seeing them in a few weeks time to present their story to them – it’s going to be epic!
