When I met James & Heather last year at a wedding fayre, we had an instant connection. I knew on a deep level that not only would they be fantastic to photograph, but I also knew they were very much an ‘Insight Couple’. What do I mean by that – an Insight Couple? Well, for me it means a couple that first and foremost want a wedding photographer that is going to look after them, plan their day in a systematic way and take responsibility for making sure that plan goes as it should. It also means a couple that have an appreciation for my style of photography – that which blends several different modes of capturing a wedding – photojournalism, fashion, formal elegant group shots and also the daft moment! Lastly an Insight couple connect with me on a level that goes beyond that of a service provider. I am so inspired by what I do on a daily basis and it is the closeness of the relationships that I form with my clients that in part drives this inspiration.
From the very moment I met Heather & James and their 2 wonderful children Isobel & Josh, I knew I had 4 new friends! We saw the Kleins just before Xmas for a family shoot in the studio and then met up for their pre-wedding shoot on a chilly afternoon in January just before James headed off to complete his Officer’s training course in the Royal Navy. James wasn’t to return until the night before his wedding. The bride and groom chose the Freedom Centre to hold their wedding and reception which was a new venue for me and I was really impressed by the whole setup there. It’s a very modern structure and has lots of interesting materials and architectural features to use in photography. I could write a whole novel on James and Heather’s big day – it was just that good! From all of the little things that James and Heather had organised to make theirs and theirs guests’ day perfect to the sheer abundance of love – I could write and write. As I’m heading out the door to another shoot, I’m just going to let the images from their album do the talking and know that you will get a deep sense of this family’s connection.
