10580074_10152605463995420_1078562410145639420_nOn Thursday of last week, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Rose and Peter’s wedding at Cave Castle Hotel, East Yorkshire.  Cave Castle is one of my fave venues and I’ve shot many weddings there but never ever come away with the same shots!  I met the boys at The Castle for preps on an absolutely gorgeous Summer morning.  Sarah Nicholson of The Floral Lounge had styled all of the flowers and I photographed Peter helping his groomsmen with their buttonhole flowers and general style tweaking.

I left Peter and his boys to finish their preps and headed up to the Bridal Suite to photograph Rose and her bridesmaids getting ready.  My trusty assistant Hannah has been very poorly over the last week so I was flying solo on this mission – Cave Castle doesn’t have any elevators so by the time preps were over I felt like I had done a marathon already!  Rose looked absolutely stunning in her classic gown – a one off number she had found in London.  With beautiful lace and an over the shoulder finish, she was just radiant.  Her bridesmaids looked stunning as well and their delicate gypsophila bouquets complimented their look so elegantly.

2014-08-10_0002The wedding ceremony was held in The Balmoral Suite and to see Peter’s face when he turned to watch his soon-to-be wife walking down the aisle left me with a lump in my throat.  Rose’s smile went from ear to ear and the moment when they saw each other was so precious.  After the ceremony, we went outside for groupshots in the gardens which were blooming with flowers just perfectly.  The sun went in behind high clouds just as we started the groups which for me and the wedding party was just perfect timing – full sun = racoon eyes!  Rose had made a ‘confetti station’ where all of the guests put together their own ‘pick and mix’ of organic materials which was a lovely touch.

2014-08-10_0003A wedding breakfast was served back in The Balmoral Suite which had been styled so beautifully by Sarah Nicholson (too clever for her own good!) Speeches followed and were kicked off by Rose’s Dad who recounted hilarious wedding customs from around the world – a very different Father of the Bride speech indeed! Pete’s speech was heartfelt, personal and very touching.  The best man’s speech was as usual – a blend of humour, character assassination and touching thoughts!

We headed out after the meal for our ‘Penny Drop Session’ and timed it just perfectly with the early evening light been low in the sky.  I always mix in my own light on these shoots and this can be a simple reflector or one, sometimes 2 off camera flashes to give my images that extra ‘pop’  Rose and Peter had hired a magician to provide entertainment during the evening and he was absolutely mind blowing!  i finished my coverage off at 9pm after the first dance and left the dancefloor booming. Rose and Peter have headed to Thailand for their honeymoon and I’m really excited to share their story with them when they get back in a couple of weeks time.
